Announcement
Several days ago, Luminato Festival Toronto announced that they are cancelling the 2020 edition of the Festival. The official announcement is available here.
The names of all those who were and would have been involved in the Festival, including our artists and newcomer consultants, are listed on this page here.
The Laboratory for Artistic Intelligence is supportive of this necessary decision, and of the tremendous courage of Luminato’s staff and Board in the face of uncertainty about the future.
We commend the exemplary steps they have quietly taken, without applause or fanfare, to be supportive of artists, contract staff, and others during this time.
“I hope many more cultural organizations will look to what Luminato is doing, in terms of financial allocations, to help cushion the fallout of the crisis.” says the Lab’s Chief Artistic Officer, Helen Yung. “Our heartfelt thanks to Naomi Campbell, Denyse Karn, and Luminato’s Board for their exemplary leadership. Aaniin (I see your light) and Miigwetch (Thank you).”
The Laboratory for Artistic Intelligence is postponing our public exhibition until public gatherings are possible again. In the meantime, we are exploring how to continue our projects in virtual space.
Over the past two weeks, we hosted a virtual creation residency with newcomer professionals and artists. You can read about your experiences here.
